Dissertação/Mestrado: UM ESTUDO SOBRE A ARGUMENTAÇÃO NO RPG NAS AULAS DE BIOLOGIA. (ROBERTO SHINITI FUJII)

ABSTRACT
This work is result of a qualitative research that aims to analyze the argument of the students of High and Superior School in a RPG game involving a biology education theme. Since Aristotle there was a decline of the argumentation studies, works showed that it lacked seriousness and commitment with the honesty of the speech. In middle of 20th century, the philosophers Toulmin, Perelman and Olbrechts-Tyteca had published science works that had again brought the studies on the science argumentation, as basic for the construction of the speech. Finally, in the 70‘s decade, van Eemeren and Grootendorst had noticed the importance of the theory of the argument as indispensable element pragmatic and dialectic in the social context. With bases in these studies, the focus went to the state of the art in the Education. The research on the argument in Science Education demonstrates that the school does not promote adequately the development of the scientific argument for unfamiliarity of the professor of its importance inside scientific disciplines. On the other hand, a research was made about the Role-playing Game - RPG and the consequences on its use in the Education. Few scientific works had been found on the use of the RPG in the science education. Due to these perspectives, a constructed adventure was applied according to Vogler categories (1997), first in a group of the 3rd year of public High School of the Paraná and, later, in a group of graduates of the students of Teaching Course in Biological Sciences at the Federal University of the Paraná. This adventure goes back in time, where the players come back accidentally toward the London of 1928 and must return for the initial time. In this task they prevent Fleming from discovering the penicillin and changing the time line. The students must decide through the argument, to fix or not to fix the actions in the game‘s time line. Both the applications had been recorded in VHS and transcribing. Using the conditions of the Pragmadialetics Theory of van Eemeren and Grootendorst (2004) for analysis of the data, we come to the conclusion that the game stimulates the development of the argument from the speeches of participants with recognizable cultural and social values for the group, which gain authority to decide the routes of the plot. Such condition places the RPG as a game of relative co-operation, therefore the players with most authority can use themselves persuasive techniques to prevail upon the other players for actions that do not reflect a collective decision.
